PACKING FOR THE HOSPIAL
Your heart is racing, your mind is saying "Is it real this time or just false labor again. Is our baby really on its way”? This is not the time to pack your suitcase! Print out this list, and pack your bag at least 1 month before your due date. With the printed list you can see at-a-glance what last-minute items you'll need to add. Be sure to bring something to keep you occupied during early stages of labor. Books, thank you notes for baby gifts.
FOR MOM
Labor kit containing massage oil (recommended in most childbirth classes)
Warm socks (to wear in the delivery room)
Nightgown (one that opens in the front if you're planning on breastfeeding)
Clothing for trip home (clothing with plenty of room will be the most comfortable)
Cosmetics
Toothbrush, toothpaste, floss
Deodorant
Body lotion
Robe
Slippers
FOR DAD
Vending machine money
Books or CD's (to help Mom relax)
Camera and extra film
Camcorder and batteries
Phone list
Car seat for trip home (most hospitals won’t let baby go home without one. Snacks or sandwich (keep food on hand so the "labor coach" won't have to leave your bedside.)
FOR BABY
Newborn clothing
Receiving blanket
Extra diapers
Mittens or baby nail clippers (most babies are born with long fingernails and can scratch their face)
Cans/bottles of infant formula if you intend to bottle-feed so your baby can start with the brand you prefer.
FOR BIG BROTHERS AND SISTERS
When big brothers and sisters visit the baby , here are some helpful things to have available to them: Favorite books and toys. Search the internet for Brother or Big Sister children's books.
Drawing paper and crayons/markers
A gift from Mom and Baby to give big brother or sister to help ease jealousies after Baby arrives.
A camera just for big brother or sister to take pictures of baby
